ABOUT THIS PROJECT
Our research seeks to identify the names and stories of Selma’s Bloody Sunday Foot Soldiers so future generations of Americans can be inspired by their heroism and dedication to promoting fundamental civil liberties such as the right to vote and the right to peacefully protest. We have collected the nation’s most comprehensive database of historic photographs, videos, eyewitness reports, and oral histories to offer the most in-depth examination of Bloody Sunday to date. Our findings have revealed critical historic sites that have yet to be preserved and highlighted numerous voices that provide new perspectives on this monumental event. Ultimately, we seek to share all that we have learned through public exhibits, programs, memorials, and a website that honor Selma’s Bloody Sunday Foot Soldiers.
